- Ordino Arcalís adds electric bicycles to its selection of offerings, headlined by the Mirador Solar de Tristaina lookout point
Grandvalira and Ordino Arcalís kick off a new summer season with an expanded offering that is the “most comprehensive we’ve ever had in summer,” said Grandvalira Resorts General Manager Juan Ramón Moreno this morning during the season presentation held at Mon(t) Magic Family Park in Canillo. Specifically, the family park is home to many of this season’s new activities, with three new attractions and three new types of tickets. And Ordino Arcalís is adding electric bicycles to its selection of offerings, headlined by the Mirador Solar lookout point and excursions to the Tristaina Lakes.
Grandvalira is heading into the summer season with the motto Limitless summer, to highlight the wide variety of offerings for all audiences available once again this year in the resort’s various sectors, with activities right in the heart of nature along with culinary options that make the resort a gastronomical destination for this time of year. Meanwhile, the Ordino Arcalís motto is Where time stands still, emphasising that the resort is the perfect place to connect with nature and relax, and making clear reference to the Tristaina lookout point and its function as a sundial.
In this morning’s presentation of this new summer season, Moreno also recalled that “we are coming off a wonderful winter season, and everything points to us having a very similar visitor profile this summer with a large number of customers from neighbouring areas. Despite the atmosphere of uncertainty we are currently living through, we are hoping to have a great summer as well”. Also participating in the event were the General Manager of Grandvalira - Ensisa, David Hidalgo, who spoke about the new developments in the Canillo and Soldeu sectors, and the Director of Business Development of Grandvalira - Saetde, Xavier Salinas, who presented those of the Grau Roig, Encamp and Pas de la Casa sectors, and of Ordino Arcalís.
David Hidalgo said that “this summer we believe we can repeat the success of last year, and as of now our bookings indicate that we will”. Finally, Xavi Salinas underlined that Grandvalira “is a culinary destination in summer" thanks to “first-rate dining options” like the Llac dels Pessons restaurant, one of the resort’s most iconic spots.
ORDINO ARCALÍS
One of the biggest new developments of the season is the introduction of electric bicycles with different circuits in the La Coma area. These new routes have different levels and lengths, such as full-day outings and others that are shorter. The second big development in Ordino Arcalís is the installation of a camera on the Creussans chairlift for taking spectacular photos with Creussans Lake as a backdrop that visitors can take home as a souvenir.
It should be noted that the summer season in Ordino Arcalís started on 4 June with the opening of the Creussans chairlift on weekends, providing access to the Mirador Solar de Tristaina lookout point. The resort’s offerings will expand on 23 June with the daily opening of the Creussans chairlift, as well as the Tristaina cable car coming into operation and the closing of the La Coma road so that cycling tourists can enjoy the last 4.5 kilometres without motorised traffic. This year, the summer season in Ordino Arcalís will be the longest in history, extending all the way to 1 November when the Creussans chairlift closes.
In terms of dining options, Arcalís once again has the La Coma restaurant, which has been fully renovated inside and out, including indoor spaces, dining rooms, the kitchen, the cafeteria and the terrace, where there will be a Basecamp with sun loungers and small tables. The menu has also been updated, and everything will be ready for 23 June. Plus, every Saturday in July and August it will be open at night for dinner with live music and entertainment. Meanwhile, the Sorteny Mountain Shelter has been open since 1 May giving visitors the perfect opportunity to enjoy alpine cuisine and stay overnight in the heart of the idyllic Sorteny Valley.
CANILLO SECTOR
The Mon(t) Magic Family Park opens on Saturday 18 June and this summer it will have three new activities: QuickFlight, Red Sharks and Push Bikes. QuickFlight is a jump off a 7 metre platform located right next to the BigAirBag jump platforms. In fact, the platform, which will be ready in late June, is an expansion on the existing one, and users will be equipped with a waist harness for the jump.
Red Sharks are bicycles mounted onto a board similar to a paddle surf board, letting users enjoy the feeling of pedalling on water. Push Bikes, meanwhile, are balance bike circuits for kids between 3 and 5 years old. It is a simple activity designed for beginners in which parents can accompany their children.
To do these activities, Grandvalira Resorts is offering three new ticket packs for the park. The first is the Basic Pass, which includes a return trip on the lifts to lookout points (Portella, Incles Valley and Espiolets), the Explor Games adventure game, the Fornatura, the Marmot Observation Centre in Soldeu, the Path of Legend, the Trekking circuits and the bouncy castles.
Meanwhile, the Únic Pass includes everything the Basic Pass does, plus two descents on the Màgic Gliss, archery, tubing, pedal cars, Acro Jump, BigAirbag, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and Push Bikes.
Finally, the Adrenaline Pass, for over 14s, includes everything the Basic Pass does plus tickets to Mon(t) Magic's star attractions: the zip line, two descents on the Màgic Gliss, as well as the new QuickFlight and RedShark attractions.
The park will be open every day until 11 September, and on weekends and holidays from then until 12 October.
Another point of interest in the Canillo sector is the Mirador Portella lookout point, which is accessed from a chairlift that will be open weekends in July (16 and 17, 25 and 26) and every day in August until the 28th. Finally, the dining options in Canillo include Roc de les Bruixes, Xiri Forn and the cafeteria.
SOLDEU SECTOR
The Soldeu sector also has two new ticket packages this summer that are similar to those of the Mon(t) Magic Family Park in Canillo, mainly intended for non-golfers. There is the Basic Green, which includes everything the Canillo Basic Pass does, and the Green Pass, which has everything the Basic Green does plus 1 hour of practice and 20 minutes of Segway or a guided visit to the golf course in a buggy.
Likewise, starting 24 June, golf fans will once again have the chance to enjoy the highest 9-hole course in Europe (2,250 metres), which is 2,590 metres long, spans 16 hectares and is par 33. Plus, the Soldeu Golf Club is reopened this year, so there will be much more social activity on the course.
Soldeu is also a key point to observe and learn more about native animals with the Marmot Observation Centre and outings with experienced beekeepers. Another activity available in Soldeu are 20 and 40 minute Segway outings.
Soldeu's dining options include the Wine & Meat Bar by Jean Leon restaurant with a menu of fresh market cuisine and a Josper area highlighting everything grilled. The sector also has a cafeteria.
ENCAMP SECTOR
Opening on 2 July is Funicamp, the longest funitel in Europe with a 25 minute ride through the Cortals Valley, reaching 2,502 metres of elevation. From there it is possible to do routes on foot or excursions in 4x4 to discover alpine landscapes and cultural and historical heritage visiting Orri del Cubil. There are also 4x4 excursions to Orri d’Encenrrera and Pessons Lake in the Grau Roig sector, where visitors can hike, cycle, fish and enjoy the delicacies of the Refugi Llac de Pessons restaurant. The Encamp sector's dining options also include the cafeteria and the self-service Solanelles restaurant with its spectacular terrace.
GRAU ROIG SECTOR
The Grandvalira Mountain Guides (GMG) are here for another summer season. This mountain guides centre offers the possibility to get to know Grandvalira by touring the trails and routes of Andorra in a way that is more accessible for all audiences than in winter. GMG also has options to go climbing, orienteering and fishing, and for the most daring visitors there is helitrekking: an experience that combines hiking with a helicopter ride. At Pessons Lake, the 4x4 bus will be operating once again.
To complete the day, there’s nothing better than enjoying the cuisine of the Refugi Llac de Pessons restaurant, one of the most iconic in Grandvalira, as well as the classic Brasserie Piolet, which will be open starting 23 June and 1 July, respectively.
Also in Grau Roig there is the possibility to spend the night in the mountains thanks to the experience offered by Epic Andorra at the Cabana Piolet, at 2,150 metres of elevation, between the Pessons y Colells cirque glacier at the foot of Montmalús Peak, or in the unique Domo Lodge, a transparent igloo located at 2,350 metres of elevation with a large window for enjoying nature.
PAS DE LA CASA SECTOR
In Pas de la Casa, summer starts on 2 July with the opening of the Pioners cable car and the Los Isards chairlift every day from 10 am to 2 pm to facilitate access to the mountains for all audiences so that visitors can go further, for example to Estany de les Abelletes, which is very popular among local fishers.
SEASON PASS
Once again this year, Grandvalira Resorts wanted to reward the loyalty of its customers by facilitating access to the various activities on offer. Therefore, the winter season pass for Grandvalira, for Ordino Arcalís and Ski Andorra will provide free access to the Canillo and Soldeu cable cars, to Funicamp, to the Pas de la Casa, Pioners and Isards lifts, and to the Tristaina cable car and Creussans chairlift in Ordino Arcalís.
4 VALLEYS, THE SUMMER PASS
